Released digitally last winter, the new Yellow Ostrich album Soft is finally being released on vinyl! Limited to 500 copies worldwide on translucent pink vinyl, Soft is the first new album that the quietly brilliant musician, producer and songwriter Alex Schaaf has released under the YO name in seven years. Full of sublime lyrics, Soft is a perfect balance of experimental and classic sounds, great hooks, and elegant playing, featuring an outstanding group of assembled musicians borrowed from La Luz, Lissie, Bon Iver, and The War on Drugs. Engineered and mixed by Zach Hanson (Bon Iver, Gordi, Whitney, Waxahatchee, Hand Habits).
Last year also saw the release of the 10th anniversary reissue of Yellow Ostrich’s underground-classic debut The Mistress and its limited (and now sold out) vinyl pressing, and Like a Bird: An Alex Schaaf Anthology (2010-2021) a digital-only compilation spanning Schaaf’s work in Yellow Ostrich and his self-released solo projects under his own name and under the name Human Heat.
