Jim Basnight - Under The Rock LP

NEW. SEALED.

Precedent Records

“Under the Rock” marks Jim Basnight's first album of all new original material since 2019’s “Not Changing.”

It draws from the strongest songs written over the past five years, alongside a few older compositions refined during that period. The album captures a sound long imagined and finally achieved through close collaboration with trusted musicians and long standing creative partners.

Much of the record grew out of years of touring and musical dialogue with drummer Sean Peabody and vocalist Beth Peabody. Extensive time on the road shaped a shared language centered on serving each song. Beth’s attentive phrasing, strong pitch, and growing vocal personality brought depth and confidence to the arrangements. Drummer Glenn Hummel, a longtime collaborator from the Jim Basnight Band, carried forward the established rhythmic feel on later sessions with skill and consistency.

Bassist, engineer, mixer, and co-producer Garey Shelton anchors every track. Three decades of collaboration built a level of trust and efficiency which defined the sessions. Working largely from his Seattle area studio, Shelton often guided the project independently and helped realize the album’s clearest expression to date.

Guitarist Bruce Hazen appears on every track, building on years of shared history across multiple albums and bands. His twin guitar interplay with Jim Basnight reaches its peak here, driving the record’s energy and cohesion.

Songs were written to suit Jim's mature voice, resulting in confident leads and rich lower harmonies. Additional backing vocals from Cathy Sorbo and Suze Sims filled gaps and added character, while Shelton contributed harmonies and percussion. The result is a focused, collaborative album shaped by trust, history, and shared purpose.
