Penetration - The Early Years LP

Recent reissue.

Get Back Records

It's mildly disingenuous that this vinyl-only compilation is called THE EARLY YEARS, because the entire career of first wave Manchester punk band Penetration barely lasted two years from their first rehearsal to their breakup. But this 180-gram LP of the group's early demos (including a raw take on their signature song, "Don't Dictate") and John Peel sessions shows off singer Pauline Murray's stroppy caterwaul and the band's off-kilter urgency to great effect. Penetration were among the best of the second-string punk bands, and THE EARLY YEARS is essential for fans.
